Microsoft Power BI – All You Need to Know

Following up on our last post on Microsoft Power Apps, we thought we’d dig into the rest of the Power Platform to show just how much it can do for an organization! To start with, let’s delve into the features and benefits of Power BI

Power BI is the easiest way to incorporate Business Intelligence into your organization. One of its primary functions is as a Data warehouse – a repository for large amounts of data from a variety of sources – such as databases from Oracle, IBM, Sybase, SQL, etc. Other data sources include file types, Azure-based data sources, and many third-party sources like Facebook, MailChimp, and even individual web pages.

Once you have your data sources connected to Power BI, there are all kinds of things you can do with it:

  • Data preparation – take large amounts of raw data – possibly even from multiple sources – and convert it into a format that is easier to read and analyze.
  • Data mining – discover patterns in large data sets that would otherwise be too labour-intensive to perform manually.
  • Data visualization – create polished reports with a range of tables, charts, and diagrams representing different insights and or patterns you wish to present to people.

Whatever size organization you have, Power BI can help you monitor your business more closely. Business intelligence is a path to new opportunities and better business strategies, and Power BI makes all of this highly accessible. It’s incredibly easy to learn to use the program – you’ll soon be producing professional reports for your organization!
