Are you wondering about the change from Microsoft’s Cloud Solution Provider (CSP) program to the New Commerce Experience (NCE)? Are you curious how purchasing of Microsoft licenses is changing and how this will affect you?
The New Commerce Experience from Microsoft has been designed to simplify and streamline the way in which customers purchase Microsoft licenses – it not only offers a wider range of tailored purchases, but also improves your selling processes and capabilities through a more consistent Microsoft product ecosystem.
The Microsoft NCE announcement follows the move of Azure to the New Commerce Experience in 2019. It will now be expanded to include the Microsoft 365, Dynamics 365, Windows 365, and Power Platform offerings as well.
How does the change impact my licenses?
The main thing to understand about this transition, is that the new structure favours you to lock in your licenses on an annual basis – in the past, on CSP, users were free to purchase any number of licenses and then return ones they didn’t need or use for a pro-rated charge.
While you are still able to purchase and cancel licenses on a monthly basis, users will be charged a premium of 20% extra on the license’s annual cost for this to be allowed. The model used in CSP, whereby users had a bit more freedom to purchase and cancel, is slowly being phased out and it is preferred to lock in prices for a year.
